Andra Sparks - A new project

This project has been percolating for some time now: strings and voice... creating something much more acoustic and linked more quietly into our individual experience of music: my growing collection of songs from all genres, Nick's abiding passion for the double bass and Dominic's versatile musical skills in all areas of music.

Our basic premise is that there has to be a reason for including each number

A link with our backgrounds ...Canada, Ireland, England ..
whether it's either a haunting tune or a sentiment we want to express -
it has to be grounded and vital.

So ... we are delving happily into the wonderful Duke Ellington's music -
perfect for this combination of acoustic sounds... sampling the incredible delights of Purcell's timeless creations... and trawling through the haul of wonderful and sometimes strange numbers that have touched each of us musicians at one time or another: Leonard Cohen, Leiber and Stoller, Tim Garland...

Strumpluck Warbletwang

So, as Strumpluck Warbletwang - we present music from the last four centuries drawn from a wide variety of musical genres:
classical, folk, pop, jazz, blues and movie themes - plus original material reflecting contemporary life;
from Purcell and Dowland to Cohen and Weldon,
we strum, pluck, warble and twang our way
through the music of the ages with humour and intensity -
reflecting how 'plus ca change'...

Here is a sample of our music – from the Rosemary Branch Music Festival in 2009
